The knowhow transfer has been successful: Airlines like Air China,Thai Airways, Philippine Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines and the new Jade Cargo International carrier have come to reply on the expertise of the Sino-German joint venture at Shenzhen. In July 2006, Lufthansa Technik signed a contract with Jade Cargo International on the provision of services valued at more than 100 million US dollars. The autoclave carries out extensive repairs from a central location in Asia on thrust reverses, airframe sections and other related parts made of composites.
Meantime after four years in operation, the workforce at Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen has grown from the initial 40 to more than 100 employees. Its skilled Chinese aircraft component makers and metal workers received their basic training at the Ameco aircraft maintenance and engineering centre operated jointly by Air China and Lufthansa in Peking. It was there they learnt English technical jargon prior to honing their practical skills on-the-job at Lufthansa Technik workshops in Hamburg.
